Arrest Made for Armed Robbery of Briggs Chaney Family Dollar Store

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 30, 2012

On November 28 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers from the 3rd District responded to the Family Dollar store located at 13817 Outlet Drive in the Briggs Chaney area of Silver Spring. The semi-masked suspect displayed a handgun and demanded cash from store employees.  An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the store and the suspect fled on foot. Witnesses stated that the suspect was known to frequent the area and was seen earlier in the day.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division - Robbery Section developed 21-year-old Kairee Deyonte Dorsey, of the 13600 block of Sir Thomas Way in Silver Spring, as a suspect for the robbery and set up surveillance in the area of his residence.  At approx.1:30 a.m., Dorsey was located but fled on foot from police.  During the pursuit, an officer discharged their weapon.  Dorsey continued to flee but was apprehended a short time later.  No one was injured during the incident.

After further investigation, detectives were able to recover the handgun used by Dorsey during the robbery as well as proceeds from the store.

Dorsey was charged with 1st Degree Assault and Armed Robbery and is currently being held on bond awaiting a December court date.

Per protocol, the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division and Internal Affairs Division will conduct their investigations regarding this incident.  The officer who discharged their weapon has been placed on paid, administrative leave, which is also standard protocol.
