Police Investigate Gaithersburg Homicide/Home-Invasion Robbery

For Immediate Release: Monday, December 3, 2012

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division, Homicide/Sex Section are investigating an undetermined death that occurred early this morning in Gaithersburg as a homicide.

Shortly after midnight, officers from the Gaithersburg Police Department and the Montgomery County 6th District responded to a report of a shooting in the unit block of Whetstone Drive in Gaithersburg.  Fire/Rescue units also responded.  Officers first on the scene were directed to an apartment where they found an unresponsive adult male suffering from trauma to his body.  Fire/Rescue personnel quickly determined that the victim had succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was in the apartment with at least another male when multiple suspects entered the apartment and separated the two men.  After a brief amount of time, the suspects were heard arguing with the victim and then left the apartment.  The surviving male found the injured victim inside the apartment and called police.

Investigators believe that this crime is not random and that the victim and suspects may have had some association.  However, detectives are unable to confirm the type of relationship at this time.  Police are asking anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240.773.5070.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.
