Officers Make Arrests During Holiday Shopping Patrol

For Immediate Release: Thursday, December 6, 2012

On December 4, Police Community Action Team (PCAT) officers were conducting proactive enforcement in the area of Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda (7101 Democracy Boulevard).  This enforcement is part of a larger effort to increase safety at many shopping centers across the County during the holiday season.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. that night, PCAT officers observed a vehicle being driven in the parking lot of the mall with a non-functioning headlight and non-functioning tag lamp (making the license plate illegible).  Officers initiated a traffic stop of that vehicle and made contact with the male driver and the female passenger.  Officers noted a smell of fresh marihuana emanating from the inside of the vehicle.  During a search of the vehicle, officers located marihuana cigarettes, a baggie of cocaine, and a pill determined to be a prescribed narcotic.  Officers found a stolen credit card on the male driver during a search incident to arrest.  After their arrests, both suspects were transported to the Central Processing Unit.

The male suspect is identified as Jonathan M. Logan, age 21, of the 10700 block of Hollaway Drive in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.  He has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance - marihuana, theft of a credit card, and receiving/retaining a stolen credit card.  The female suspect is identified as Czaryna Mortley, age 21, of the 3600 block of Spring Hollow Lane in Frederick, Maryland.  She has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance-marihuana and two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance-not marihuana.

Mugshots of the suspects are not available at this time.
