Magruder High School Student Arrested for Handgun Offenses

For Immediate Release: Thursday, December 6, 2012

Today, at approximately 7:53 a.m., a 17-year-old male student was observed on the grounds of Magruder High School located at 5939 Muncaster Mill Road in Rockville who was not supposed to be on school property today.  The student was approached by the School Resource Officer (SRO) and told to leave the school grounds.  The student refused and was placed under arrest for trespassing.  During a search of the student's backpack following the arrest, an unloaded .22 caliber H&R handgun was discovered.  This was an older firearm, and it is currently being examined to determine whether it is operable.  There was no ammunition recovered with the weapon, and no one was injured.

The student, identified as Octavio Antonio Estevez, age 17, of the 7600 block of Moccasin Lane in Derwood, was charged as an adult with:

• Dangerous Weapon on School Property
• Possession of a Firearm by a Minor
• Disorderly Conduct
