Detectives have identified the victims as:  James Plakas, age 61, of the 1200 block of Broadwood Drive in Rockville, driver of the Chevrolet HHR, was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma.  He remains in critical condition.  Keegan David Lutchman, age 31, of the 17100 block of Downing Street in Gaithersburg, driver of the Volkswagen was transported for treatment; Annemarie Marion Lutchman, age 56, same block address as Keegan Lutchman, mother of Keegan and passenger in the VW was transported for treatment; Ronald St. Aubyn Baxter, age 61, of the unit block of Catoctin Ct, in Silver Spring, driver of the Ford truck was not transported for treatment; Aletha Yvette Davis, age 42, of the 12600 block of San Angelo Lane in Lusby, Maryland, driver of the Cadillac was transported for treatment; Imran Arif, age 41, of the 18000 block of Calabar Drive in Gaithersburg, driver of the Honda was treated and released; and Ana Veronica Lopez, age 50, of the unit block of Rosanne Lane in Rockville, driver of the Pontiac was not transported for treatment.

The preliminary investigation revealed that for reasons still under investigation, Keegan Lutchman, driving a silver Volkswagen (VW) Tiguan, southbound in the 1200 block of Rockville Pike, crossed over into the northbound lanes.  The VW struck the driver’s side mirror of a 2006 Ford F15 pick-up truck in a northbound lane of Rockville Pike.  The VW then continued southbound on Rockville Pike in a northbound lane, striking a 2006 black Chevrolet HHR in the intersection at Templeton Place.  The impact caused the Chevrolet to collide with a 2005 burgundy Cadillac SRX.  The VW then struck a 2009 silver Honda Civic which was stopped in a northbound lane of Rockville Pike.  The VW continued and struck a 2009 burgundy Pontiac Torrent which was traveling northbound on Rockville Pike.  The VW then jumped the curb, traveled over the sidewalk and came to rest in the parking lot of the BMW dealership located at 1450 Rockville Pike

Plakas, driver of the Chevrolet HHR, was transported for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries.  The four other adult individuals, including the male driver and female passenger of the VW, the female driver of the Cadillac, and the male driver of the Honda, were transported to Suburban Hospital for treatment of what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the Honda was treated and released from the hospital.

The investigation of this collision caused Rockville Pike to initially be closed in both directions at Templeton Place.  Several hours later two southbound lanes reopened, but the northbound lanes remained closed for several more hours.  Rockville Pike was reopened in both directions at approximately 5:15 p.m.
