2 Suspects Arrested for Involvement in Silver Spring Shooting

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, January 2, 2013

On January 1, at approximately 2:54 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the 13000 block of Brahms Terrace in Silver Spring for multiple reports of shots fired in the area.  Callers stated that two groups of people had been involved in a dispute in the parking lot and that gunfire had been exchanged during the dispute.

Based on witness accounts of the incident, officers stopped a vehicle that was leaving the scene and believed to be occupied by suspects involved in the shooting.  Officers interviewed occupants of that vehicle to include the driver, Derek Bratcher.  Officers also interviewed occupants of a residence in the 13000 block of Brahms Terrace.  One of the occupants interviewed included Lamaughan Solomon.

Investigation by detectives has revealed that the two above mentioned groups have had an ongoing dispute since approximately August.  Earlier in the day on January 1, the two groups had confronted one another in the parking lot of the 13000 block of Brahms Terrace.   Later in the day, Bratcher drove his vehicle into the parking lot.  A group of people, to include Solomon, attempted to confront Bratcher.  Bratcher exited his vehicle and Solomon extended a baton as he moved closer to Bratcher.  An unknown suspect then exited the rear passenger seat of Bratcher's vehicle and displayed a handgun.  Solomon then produced a handgun and began firing the weapon towards Bratcher and one of Bratcher's family members.  Bratcher then fled the scene in a vehicle.  No one was hurt in the shooting.

Derek Bratcher, age 32, of the 13000 block of Brahms Terrace, has been charged with conspiracy to commit first degree assault, reckless endangerment, and a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.  (A shotgun was located in Bratcher's home during the execution of a search warrant).  Lamaughan Solomon, age 38, of the 18100 block of Chalet Drive in Germantown, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and reckless endangerment.

This shooting is an on-going investigation by 3rd District Detectives.  It is possible that additional suspects will be charged with involvement in the shooting.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this shooting to contact the 3rd District Investigative Section at 301-565-5835.
