Suspects Arrested for Attempted Armed Robbery in Rockville

Detectives from the 2nd District Investigative Section are investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred on January 1 in Rockville.

On January 1, at approximately 5:48 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the 5800 block of Nicholson Lane for a report of a woman screaming.  Upon arriving, officers determined that the woman had been the victim of an armed robbery.  Investigation revealed that the 56-year-old female victim had left White Flint Mall and was walking along Nicholson Lane.  She was approached from behind by three subjects who demanded cash.  One of the suspects then punched the victim in the head.  When the victim began screaming, the suspects fled.

A nearby off-duty MPDC officer observed the suspects and followed them to the White Flint Metro station.  MCP officers responded to the Metro station and placed the suspects under arrest - a 15-year-old male, a 16-year-old male, and a 17-year-old male.  When located, the 17-year-old male had a BB gun pistol concealed in his waist band.  The 16- and 17-year old suspects were charged as adults.  The 15-year-old male was charged as a juvenile.

The suspects charged as adults are identified as Tywone Omid Sommers, age 16, of the 1100 block of Sumner Road, SE in Washington, DC and Jalonte Malki Cole, age 17, also of the 1100 block of Sumner Road, SE in Washington, DC.    Sommers was charged with armed robbery, second-degree assault, and conspiracy to commit both.  Cole was charged with armed robbery, second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit both, and concealing a dangerous weapon.  Cole is currently being held on a $50,000 bond; Sommers was released yesterday on bond.  It is the policy of this office to not release photos of juvenile defendants.

The 15-year-old male, of the 8400 block of Hamlin Street in Glen Arden was charged as a juvenile with armed robbery, second-degree assault, and conspiracy to commit both.  The identity of the juvenile will not be released.
