For Immediate Release: Monday, January 7, 2013

Detectives from the 3rd District Investigative Section continue to investigate an armed robbery that occurred in Silver Spring over the weekend.

On January 4 at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers from the 3rd District were called to the 800 block of Bonifant Street for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.  The adult female victim stated that as she was walking down the street she was approached from behind by a black male suspect, in his 20’s, wearing all dark clothing.  The suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and demanded that she give it to him.  The suspect implied he had a weapon however none was seen by the victim. The victim gave up her purse and the suspect entered the front passenger seat of an awaiting silver Volkswagen Jetta with Maryland registration tag, 2AE6782. The victim could not see the driver.  The vehicle fled the area.  The victim was not injured during the incident.

Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Hyattsville and as of this posting is still outstanding.  Detectives believe that the suspect(s) may be continuing to operate the vehicle in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.
