Update: Arrest Made in Olney Shooting

Detectives from the 4th District have made an arrest in the shooting incident that occurred last night at approximately 10:33 p.m. in the 3900 block of Morningwood Drive in Olney.

During the investigation it was determined that three males were in a vehicle on Morningwood Drive.  For reasons still under investigation, one of the individuals in the vehicle was shot by another male in the vehicle.  The 22-year-old victim from Rockville was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Detectives believe that this incident may be drug-related and with the help of witness information were able to identify a suspect in the case.

Earlier this afternoon, the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Daniel Alexander Paynter of the 18000 block of Ohara Circle in Olney, arrived at the 4th District station to provide information about the incident.  Paynter was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant.

Paynter is charged as an adult with attempt first degree murder, armed robbery, and related assault and firearm charges.  He is currently being held without bond.  He is scheduled for a bond review at 1:00 p.m. in Rockville.
