Theft from Vehicles and Robberies in Germantown Believed To Be Related

Detectives from the 5th District Investigative Section continue to investigate a series of theft from vehicles and robberies in Germantown that are believed to have been committed by the same suspect.  Detectives are releasing a composite of the suspect and are asking for the public's help in identifying him.

Since December 26, 2012, there have been seven theft from vehicles and three robberies that have occurred in neighborhoods in the area of Frederick Road and Scenery Drive that are bordered by Middlebrook Road.  Below is a summary of the ten incidents:

  • Theft from Vehicle -December 26, 2012 - 11400 block of Locustdale Terrace in Germantown - At approximately 9:00 a.m., the suspect forced entry into the vehicle and took the victim's purse. The suspect was not seen by the victim.
  • Theft from Vehicle- December 31, 2012 - 20000 block of Gateshead Circle in Germantown - Between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m., the suspect forced entry into the vehicle and took the victim's purse and electronic devices. The suspect was not seen by the victim.
  • Theft from Vehicle-January 2, 2013 - 20000 block of Appledowre Circle in Germantown - At approximately 8:00 p.m., the suspect opened the unlocked vehicle and stole the victim's purse. The suspect was not seen by the victim.
  • Theft from Vehicle-January 8, 2013 - 19900 block of Appledowre Circle in Germantown - At approximately 7:55 a.m., the victim and her daughter were sitting inside a vehicle in front of the residence.  The suspect opened the unlocked passenger side door and stole the victim's purse.
  • Theft from Vehicle-January 9, 2013-20100 block of Locustdale Drive in Germantown- Between 5:40 a.m. and 6:20 a.m., electronics and cash were stolen from the victim's vehicle.  There were no signs of forced entry to the vehicle and the victim did not see the suspect.
  • Theft from Vehicle -Between January 11 and 12, 2013- 100 block of Appledowre Court - Between 10:00 p.m. on January 11 and 8:00 a.m. on January 12, the suspect forced entry and stole the victim's purse.
  • Theft from Vehicle-Between January 11 and 12, 2013- 100 block of Appledowre Court - Between 10: 00 p.m. on January 11 and 8:00 a.m. on January 12, the suspect forced entry and searched the vehicle.  Nothing was taken.
  • Robbery - January 14, 2013- 11300 block of Halethorpe Terrace - At approximately 8:32 p.m., the 50-year-old victim was opening her vehicle door in the residential parking lot.  The suspect reached into the driver's side of the vehicle and removed a purse and jewelry from the victim.  The suspect implied that he had a weapon but it was not seen by the victim.  The suspect then fled on foot.
  • Robbery (Attempt) - January 22, 2013 -19900 block of Dunstable Circle - At approximately 6:37 a.m., the 47-year-old victim was in her vehicle in the driveway.  The suspect approached the vehicle and attempted to open the driver and front passenger doors.  The suspect yelled at the victim and fled on foot after discovering that the doors were locked.
  • Robbery - January 28, 2013 - 20000 block of Appledowre Circle - At approximately 9:05 p.m., the 46-year-old victim was exiting her vehicle in the parking lot when she was approached by the suspect.  The suspect demanded money and threatened to hurt the victim with a weapon (no weapon was seen by the victim).  When the victim stated she had no money, the suspect punched the victim in the face.  The suspect then took property and fled on foot.  The victim suffered a small laceration to her face.

** It should be noted that all of these residences are associated with multi-unit/ community parking lots.**



The suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion, 18 to 28 years old, and with a round face. He is approximately 5'7" and approximately 140 pounds.  During the January 22 robbery the suspect was described as wearing a black knit cap, blue jeans, and a turquoise, zipper jacket.  Detectives are releasing a composite of the suspect.

Police are urging residents to lock vehicle doors and remove valuables from vehicles.  Police are also asking residents that live in this area to have a heightened sense of awareness and to call 9-1-1- if they believe they see the suspect.
