Police Investigate White Oak Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred in White Oak last night.

On Thursday, February 7, at approximately 10:30 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to Route 29 and Oak Leaf Drive for a pedestrian struck.  Arriving officers found a male subject, deceased in the southbound lanes of Route 29.  The 43-year-old female driver of the striking vehicle, a gray Nissan Altima, remained on the scene and cooperated with officers.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Nissan was southbound on Route 29, approaching the Oak Leaf Drive intersection.  Witnesses stated that the male pedestrian started to cross the southbound lanes from the center median, tripped while crossing the southbound lanes, and was struck by the Nissan.  He succumbed to his injuries on the scene.  The identity of the driver will be confirmed later today.  The pedestrian will be identified after next-of-kin has been notified.
