Police Investigate Death of Seven-Month-Old Girl

For Immediate Release: Saturday, February 9, 2013

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division-Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the death of a seven-month-old girl that occurred yesterday in White Oak.

On Friday at approximately 6:26 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to an apartment in the 11600 block of Lockwood Drive to assist Fire/Rescue for a pediatric injury where the victim was unresponsive.  While officers were traveling to the scene, the victim was transported by Fire/Rescue to Holy Cross Hospital.  She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital at approximately 6:54 a.m.  She is identified as Larissa Yanes of the Lockwood Drive address.

Preliminary investigation revealed that there were injuries to the girl's body. Detectives determined that these injuries were not self-inflicted.  Further inquiry revealed that on the evening of Thursday, February 7, the mother, 39-year-old Gloria Yanes, went to work at 10:30 p.m.  During the time that Gloria Yanes was gone, Larissa Yanes was being watched by her 14-year-old brother, Jonathan Aguiluc.  Detectives interviewed Aguiluc who admitted to beating his sister which caused her to cry.  He stated he then covered her mouth and nose area with his hands until she stopped crying.  He then placed her in her car seat which was in the apartment.  Gloria Yanes returned home at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, February 8 and thought the victim was sleeping.  A little after 6:00 a.m., Gloria Yanes attempted to wake Larissa Yanes so she could feed her and found her unresponsive.

Jonathan Aguiluc has been charged as an adult with first degree murder.  He remains incarcerated and held without bond.  He is scheduled to have bond review in Rockville at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11.
