Suspect Arrested For Wheaton Commercial Robbery

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, February 12, 2013

On February 8 at approximately 1:00 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the Wheaton Deli (located at 11413 Georgia Avenue) for an armed robbery that had just occurred.

Officers at the scene determined that the suspect walked into the deli, displayed a handgun to the 47-year-old female employee, and demanded money.  The employee gave the suspect money from the cash register and the suspect then ordered the victim to lie on the floor.  The suspect then fled the scene.

The employee was able to provide a description of the suspect and that information was broadcast to officers in the area.  At approximately 1:08 p.m., an officer located a subject matching the suspect's description in the area of Georgia Avenue and Arcola Avenue.  During the subject's detention, a handgun was located in his jacket.  The handgun had been reported as stolen from Georgia.

The subject, identified as Damien West, age 18, of the 9400 block of Rosemarin Way in Laurel, was arrested and transported to the Central Processing Unit.  West is charged with armed robbery, the use of a handgun in the commission of a felony, possession of a handgun, and theft: $1,000 to under $10,000.
