Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Derwood

For Immediate Release: Friday, March 22, 2013

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal vehicle collision that occurred this afternoon in Derwood.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., officers from the 6^th District and Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Shady Grove Road just west of Muncaster Mill Road for the report of a single vehicle collision.  Preliminary investigation revealed that a black 2003 BMW X5 was traveling westbound on Shady Grove Road. For reasons still unknown, the vehicle  left the roadway between Muncaster Mill Road and Mill Run Drive and struck several trees and a fence.  The driver, identified as Standford Wilson, Jr, age 61, of the 20000 block of Mattingly Terrace in Gaithersburg, was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.  Investigators are asking anyone who has information about this collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.  Callers may remain anonymous.
