Police Investigate Pedestrian Collision on Westport Road

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a  collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle that occurred on Westport Road in Chevy Chase.

On Tuesday March 26th,  at approximately 7:57 a.m., 2nd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area of Westport Road and Saratoga Avenue for the report of a personal injury collision.  Preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian was walking on Westport Road just east of Saratoga Avenue and was struck by a 2012 Toyota Sienna that was turning from northbound Saratoga Avenue onto eastbound Westport Road.

The pedestrian has been identified as Alice Ann Winkler, age 50, of the 5200 block of Saratoga Avenue in Chevy Chase.  She was transported to the Cowley Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries.  She remains there in serious condition.

The driver of the Toyota was identified as Pablo Martinez Varela, age 51, also of the 5200 block of Saratoga Avenue in Chevy Chase. Varela remained on scene of the collision and provided information to investigators.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.  Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed or may have information about this collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.  Callers may remain anonymous.
