Mateny Road Fatal Crash Investigated

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Germantown early this morning.

Today at approximately 2:31 a.m., officers from the 5th District and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the report of a serious collision on Mateny Road at Clopper Road.  Preliminary investigation revealed that a blue, 2004 Honda Civic was traveling north on Mateny Road.  As the Honda entered the intersection of Mateny and Clopper Roads, it collided with a Regency taxicab that was traveling east on Clopper Road.  For reasons still under investigation, the Honda spun 180 degrees and traveled south on Mateny Road.  It left the right side of the road and struck a tree.  The driver succumbed to her injuries on the scene.  She has been identified as Colleen Nicole Bell, 20 years old, of the 19100 block of Highstream Drive in Germantown.

The driver of the cab has been identified as Mabeen Basharat, 31 years old, of Steeple Court in Germantown.  He reported an injury but was not transported.
