NINJA on the Ramps (Nighttime Seat Belt Enforcement) Results

Last Friday night, (April 5), the Montgomery County Police Department teamed up with the Gaithersburg Police Department, the Rockville City Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Maryland State Police in a campaign to aggressively enforce the nighttime use of seat belts.   From approximately 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., officers were stationed at entrance and exit ramps of  I-270 and I-495.  The officers were observing vehicles for seat belt non-compliance and other safety violations.  A zero tolerance policy was in effect during this operation.  Eight minutes after the start of the enforcement, a traffic stop was initiated for a seat belt violation and drugs were located in the vehicle.  Seventeen minutes into the operation, the first driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) arrest was made by an officer.
