For Immediate Release: Thursday, May 9, 2013

NATIONAL POLICE WEEK 2013 – May 12 – May 18

Each year during the national observance of police week, communities across the United States honor those officers that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers travel to Washington, DC to participate in commemorative events that honor these fallen officers.

This year, the names of 320 officers killed in the line of duty are being added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. These 320 officers include 119 officers who were killed during 2012, plus 201 officers whose stories of sacrifice had been lost until now. This year, Montgomery County Police Officer III William D. Talbert will be added to the memorial. Montgomery County Police Officer William “Bill” Talbert died in January of 2012 as the result of medical complications after being injured by a drunk driver in 1983.

Please join the Montgomery County Police Department in honoring and remembering the law enforcement officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, while also remembering the loved ones and friends they left behind.
