Results of Nightime Seat Belt Enforcement

For Immediate Release: Monday, May 13, 2013

Last Friday night, (May 10),  Montgomery County police officers teamed up with Gaithersburg police officers and Rockville City police officers in a campaign to aggressively enforce the nighttime use of seatbelts.   From approximately 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., officers were stationed at entrance and exit ramps of  I-270 and I-495.  (Heavy rain came into the area, which ended the operation early).  The officers were observing vehicles for seatbelt non-compliance and other safety violations.

Here are some specific results of this nighttime seat belt enforcement :

Total Number of Traffic Citations Issued : 139

Seat Belt Citations Issued : 44



Equipment Repair Orders Issued : 25



Warnings Issued: 59

Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Arrests : 4

Criminal Arrests: 2

Criminal Citations Issued: 1

Warrants Served : 1



Driving While Suspended Traffic Citations : 8
