Officers Arrest Suspect For Armed Robbery of Silver Spring Radio Shack

For Immediate Release: Monday, May 20, 2013

On May 16 at approximately 8:57 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to an armed robbery of a Radio Shack located at 8213 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.

On scene, officers determined that the suspect had entered the Radio Shack through the front door, announced a robbery, and displayed what appeared to be a handgun.  After receiving money and property, the suspect fled through the back door of the business towards Fenton Street.  The suspect was described as a female wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, and a black ski mask.  The suspect description was broadcast to officers over the radio.  An officer responding to the robbery observed a taxi pick up a fare on Fenton Street just south of Silver Spring Avenue; the person entering the taxi matched the description of the robbery suspect.  The officer initiated a traffic stop of the taxi and located the suspect inside the vehicle.

The suspect, identified as SHAWNESE TAYLOR, age 21, of the 45500 block of Knockeyon Lane in Great Mills, Maryland, was arrested at the scene of the traffic stop.  Taylor was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with armed robbery.  Officers located the proceeds of the robbery (money and property) and a silver lighter shaped like a handgun in Taylor's book bag.
