Serious Pedestrian Collision in Rockville Involved a School Bus

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a serious pedestrian collision involving a Montgomery County School bus that occurred today at approximately 2:34 p.m. at the intersection of Darnestown Road  and Shady Grove Road in Rockville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian was jogging on the sidewalk adjacent to the southbound lanes of Shady Grove Road. He was jogging in a northbound direction facing traffic, and was just south of the intersection with Darnestown Road. The school bus, without any passengers on board, was traveling eastbound on Darnestown Road in the lane next to the curb. At the intersection of Shady Grove Road and Darnestown Road the pedestrian entered the roadway and was struck by the bus.

The victim sustained potentially life-threatening injuries and was transported to Suburban Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The pedestrian was identified as Jason Alexander Estabrook, age 42, of the 1700 block of Crommelins Court in Point of Rocks, Maryland.  The school bus was operated by Tugjnyam Bavaa, age 58, of the 200 block of Popular Spring Road in Rockville. He was not injured in the collision.
