Police Ask for Information in Silver Spring Shooting

For Immediate Release: Thursday, May 23, 2013

Detectives from the 3rd District Investigative Section are asking for the public's help in providing information about a shooting that occurred on May 10 in Silver Spring.

On May 10 at approximately 8:40 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the 8700 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring for the report of a shooting.  More than one call was received by the Emergency Communications Center reporting the sound of gunshots and people running and yelling.

Officers arrived on scene and found a 16-year-old male shot in the leg.  The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Investigators have determined that the victim was walking with a group of people who were  going to a house party in the area of Quebec Terrace.  Detectives believe that at least some of these group members are associated with a gang.  As the group was walking through the parking lot of the Sunoco gas station located at 8875 Piney Branch Road, multiple gun shots were heard.  The victim realized that he had been shot.  Detectives believe that this shooting may be related to gang activity.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this shooting or the suspect(s) involved to call the 3rd District Investigative Section at 301-565-5835.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers  tip here.  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.
