Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision on Georgia Avenue

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision involving a Metro Bus that occurred last night on Georgia Avenue.

Last night, at approximately 11:08 p.m., 4th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area of Georgia Avenue just south of the intersection with Olney-Sandy Spring Road (MD 108) for a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a Metro Bus.  Investigation revealed that the Metro Bus had been picking up passengers at the bus stop on southbound Georgia Avenue.  As the bus was pulling away from the curb, the pedestrian fell under the bus, and the bus struck the pedestrian.

The male pedestrian was transported to Suburban Hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.  Overnight, however, his condition deteriorated, and he was pronounced deceased at 5:55 a.m. this morning.

The pedestrian involved in this collision has been identified as Ronald Maurice Johnson, age 50, of Brookeville.

The driver of the Metro Bus has been identified as Anthony Whitaker, age 54, of the 2200 block of Shorefield Road in Silver Spring.
