Detectives Seek Additional Victims of Sexual Assault Suspect

For Immediate Release: Friday, June 7, 2013

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division - Homicide/Sex Section have been investigating two cases of sexual assault committed by the same suspect on November 17, 2012 and on May 17, 2013.  Now, detectives believe there may be additional victims who have been sexually assaulted by this suspect.

On November 17, 2012, a 24-year-old female and a 25-year-old female contacted police and stated that they had been the victims of rape and sexual assault.  Investigation revealed that the two victims had accompanied the suspect to his home and all three went to sleep.  One of the victims then awoke to find the suspect touching her inappropriately.  The first victim attempted to awaken the second victim unsuccessfully and left the room.  The second victim later awoke to find the suspect sexually assaulting her.  Both victims left the residence and contacted police.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives developed a suspect in this case identified as Ramon Vasquez, age 35, of the 2000 block of Little Sorrel Way in Silver Spring.  On December 26, 2012, a warrant was issued charging Vasquez with one count of second degree rape and one count of committing a third degree sex offense.  The warrant was served on January 8, 2013, and Vasquez was released on bond on January 9, 2013.  This case is currently an active case in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County.  A September 3 trial date has been set.

On May 18, a 30-year-old female victim contacted police and stated that she had been a victim of sexual assault by Vasquez.  Investigation revealed that the victim and Vasquez had been friends for several years.  On May 17, Vasquez asked the victim to come to his residence which was not uncommon.  Once there, the victim drank a soda out of a cup provided by Vasquez and then took two Ambien pills also provided by Vasquez.  The two went to sleep in Vasquez' bedroom.  The next morning, the victim woke to discover Vasquez on top of her and both her and Vasquez' clothes removed.

On May 31, detectives obtained a warrant charging Vasquez with one count of second degree rape for the May 18 incident.  Vasquez was arrested on June 5 on the strength of the warrant and is currently being held without bond.

Based on the two incidents outlined above, detectives believe that there may be additional victims of sexual assault by Vasquez that have not contacted police.  Detectives are urging anyone who believes that they have been a victim to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
