Police Investigate Homicide in Silver Spring

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division- Homicide and Sex Section are investigating the death of an adult female in Silver Spring as a homicide.  An adult male suspect is in custody at this time.

At approximately 8:09 a.m. this morning, officers responded to an apartment in the 9700 block of Mt. Pisgah Road in Silver Spring for a check the welfare call.  A concerned co-worker called police after the victim had not shown up to work recently.  Officers knocked on the door but did not receive a response.  With the assistance of  Property Management, officers entered the apartment.  In the apartment, officers located the victim deceased with trauma to her body.  Officers also located the male suspect in the apartment and he was taken into custody.

Investigators believe that the suspect and victim were known to each other.  As it is early in the investigation, the nature of the relationship between the suspect and victim cannot be confirmed.  It cannot be confirmed if either the suspect or victim lived at the residence.

The department does not foresee additional information being released tonight regarding this investigation.
