Police Investigate Vehicle Collision at Gaithersburg Sam's Club

Today, at approximately 12:53 p.m., 6th District officers and Gaithersburg City officers responded to the Sam's Club located at 610 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg for a report of a vehicle that had struck and entered into the building.

Investigation revealed that a 77-year-old male was operating a gold 2002 Buick LeSabre in the parking lot of Sam's Club.  For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck a 31-year-old female walking in the parking lot before entering into the building.  The female suffered minor injuries and was transported to Shady Grove Hospital for a check-up.  She was accompanied by her 3-year-old and 1-year-old children who were not injured.

Upon entering the building, the vehicle struck a 33-year-old male who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.  He was transported to Suburban Hospital.

The vehicle also struck a 76-year-old male inside the building.  He suffered critical injuries, including the amputation of his leg by the vehicle.  He was transported by Maryland State Police helicopter to Baltimore Shock Trauma for treatment of his injuries.

The driver involved in this collision was not injured and is currently being interviewed by detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.  This investigation is continuing, and no further details are available at this time.
