Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the collision that occurred earlier today at Sam's Club at 610 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2002 Buick LeSabre, operated by Subinoy Mazumdar, age 77, of the 10800 block of Outpost Drive in North Potomac, struck a woman in the parking lot and then struck the building and entered the store.  The vehicle then struck two men who were inside the store.

The woman struck in the parking lot is identified as Sheila R. Orellana, age 31, of the 7900 block of Capricorn Terrace in Derwood.  Ms. Orellana suffered minor injuries and, at the time of the collision, was accompanied by her 3-year-old and 1-year-old children who were not injured.

One of the men struck inside the store is identified as Dimas M. Chavez, age 76, of the 11700 block of Gregerscroft Road in Potomac.  Mr. Chavez suffered a traumatic amputation of part of one leg as a result of the collision.  A Gaithersburg City Police officer and a Montgomery County Police officer assisted two unidentified members of the military in providing emergency first aid until the arrival of Fire/Rescue units.  Mr. Chavez was transported by Maryland State Police helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

The second man struck inside the store suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Suburban Hospital.  He is identified as Thuan Bui, age 33, of the 22000 block of Ivy Leaf Drive in Boyds.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.  The investigation is continuing and no charges have been placed at this time.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
