Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred Friday afternoon in the 20700 block of Highland Hall Drive in Montgomery Village.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., 6th District officers responded to the 20700 block of Highland Hall Drive for a personal injury collision.   Preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of a 2002 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle turned onto Highland Hall Drive, did a "wheelie" and lost control of the motorcycle.  The motorcycle accelerated, struck the curb, travelled across a grass area, and struck the side of a house.  Upon striking the house, the motorcycle and its operator travelled through a side window and came to rest inside the residence.

A Montgomery County Sheriff's deputy arrived on the scene within minutes and found the victim pinned underneath the motorcycle.  The deputy provided emergency medical care until arrival of Fire and Rescue units.

The operator of the vehicle, identified as Richard Mark Sampson, age 44, of Montgomery Village was transported to a local area hospital where he died from his injuries.  He was the owner of the residence that was struck.  No other persons were injured.

This collision remains under investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.  Callers may remain anonymous.
