Labor Day Traffic Enforcement Results

Over the Labor Day weekend, Montgomery County Police-Alcohol Initiatives Section officers participated in two focused traffic details.  On Friday evening, August 30, Montgomery County police officers participated in "Operation Millipede", a statewide initiative to make I-95/I-495 a safer road to travel.  Five Montgomery County Alcohol Initiatives Section officers, with the assistance of six Maryland State Troopers, enforced traffic laws on I-495.  The enforcement lasted approximately ten hours.

The results of "Operation Millipede" are:

Initiated Traffic Stops - 198

Traffic Citations Issued - 168

Traffic Warnings Issued - 39

Equipment Repair Orders Issued - 52

Criminal Arrests/Citations Issued - 18 , for controlled dangerous substances

Warrants Served - 2



Civil Citations Issued - 1, for alcohol violation

From approximately 11:15 p.m. on Saturday evening, August 31, to approximately 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 1, Alcohol Initiatives Section officers conducted a sobriety checkpoint at northbound Route 27 at Henderson Corner Road in Germantown.

The results of this checkpoint are:

DUI Arrests - 7

Criminal Arrests - 1, for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute the drug

After the checkpoint concluded, Alcohol Initiatives Section Officers responded to the report of an underage drinking party in Gaithersburg.  Officers issued 18 adult civil citations for drinking alcohol underage and issued one criminal citation for furnishing alcohol to someone under the legal age.
