Two Suspects Arrested for Robbery of Sandy Spring Bank

For Immediate Release: Monday, October 7, 2013

Montgomery County Police robbery detectives have charged two suspects for the robbery of the Sandy Spring Bank located in Sandy Spring on September 25.  Deanna Lorraine Dodd, age 35, of an unconfirmed address, has been charged with robbery.  The getaway driver, Crystal Lopez-Roa, age 37, of an unconfirmed address, has also been charged with robbery.

On September 25 at approximately 1:32 p.m., officers responded to the Sandy Spring Bank located at 908 Olney Sandy Spring Road for the report of a bank robbery.  Investigation revealed that a suspect, later identified as Dodd, entered the bank and passed a note demanding money.  She received an undisclosed amount of cash and ran from the bank.  A witness observed Dodd enter a waiting vehicle and provided a description of the getaway driver.

Investigators from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office communicated with Montgomery County Police robbery detectives and provided Dodd's name as a possible suspect.  The Carroll County Sheriff's Office had obtained a warrant for Dodd's arrest for committing two bank robberies in their county.

On September 26, Maryland State troopers responded to a hotel in Takoma Park and arrested Dodd on the Carroll County arrest warrant.  On that day, Dodd was wearing the same clothing that she had worn during the Sandy Spring Bank robbery.  She was in the company of Lopez-Roa, who through investigation, was identified as the getaway driver in the Sandy Spring Bank robbery.

Montgomery County Police detectives transported Lopez-Roa to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with her robbery.  She has been released from custody pending a preliminary hearing scheduled  for October 25.  Dodd was transported to the Carroll County Detention Center to face the robbery charges brought in that county.  Montgomery County Police robbery detectives have obtained a warrant for Dodd's arrest for committing the Sandy Spring Bank robbery.  She remains in the custody of Carroll County.
