Employee Arrested for Bringing Gun to School

An employee at Georgetown Preparatory School, located at 10900 Rockville Pike in Rockville, has been arrested for bringing a gun on to school grounds.

Yesterday, at approximately 1:50 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the Georgetown Preparatory School for a report that a school employee had a gun in the school.

Investigation revealed that Stephen P. Lafferty, age 51, of the 4300 block of Tabler Road in Frederick had brought a Smith & Wesson revolver into his office and placed it on his desk.  He had brought the gun with the intention of having work done to it after school.  The gun was unloaded and was in a holster while on the desk.

Police took possession of the gun and arrested Lafferty.  During a search of Lafferty following his arrest, officers located drug paraphernalia on Lafferty's person.

Lafferty was charged with one count of possessing a dangerous weapon on school property and one count of possession of CDS paraphernalia.  He has been released on bond.
