Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Rockville

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this afternoon in Rockville.

On Saturday, December 28 at 2:21 p.m., 1st District officers and Rockville City officers responded to Maryland Avenue and Great Falls Road for a personal injury collision.  Upon arrival, officers located a gray 2004 Toyota Corolla and a silver 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada involved in a side-impact collision within the intersection.

Preliminary investigation indicates the Oldsmobile was traveling eastbound on Maryland Avenue with a green traffic signal.  The Toyota was traveling westbound on Maryland Avenue attempting to turn left onto Potomac Valley Road with a green traffic signal.  As the Toyota was making the left turn, the Oldsmobile struck the Toyota on the passenger side.

The front passenger in the Toyota, identified as Irwin Percival Bellamy, age 89, of Kensington, Maryland was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.  The driver of the Toyota was the victim's son, David Alan Bellamy, age 53, of Hanover, Maryland.  David Bellamy was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, Rachel Miller Dawson, age 73, of Potomac, Maryland was not injured and remained on the scene.
