Detectives Investigate Drowning in Gaithersburg

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division are investigating a drowning that occurred last evening in Gaithersburg.

At approximately 4:16 p.m., 6th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to a pond located in the area of Diamondback Drive and Reprise Drive for a report of three children stuck on and in the pond.  Upon arriving, two of the children were immediately rescued by Fire/Rescue; however, the third child had fallen through the ice and went under the water.  After approximately 25 minutes in the water, the third child was rescued.

Two of the children were treated at the hospital and released.  The third child was transported to the hospital but did not survive.

The third child has been identified as D'Angelo McMullen, age 10, of the 10100 block of Reprise Drive in Rockville.

4:49 p.m.  Statement from family of D'Angelo McMullen:

"We would like to thank all of our family, friends, and the community for their support during this difficult time.  Please respect our privacy while our family grieves the loss of our very special child."
