Police Investigate Double Fatal Collision in Gaithersburg

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a collision that occurred in Gaithersburg last evening where two drivers were killed.

On Sunday, January 19 at 6:58 p.m., 6th District patrol officers, Gaithersburg patrol officers, and fire rescue units responded to a personal injury collision on Quince Orchard Road at Quince Orchard Boulevard.  Upon arrival, officers observed a two vehicle collision where one of the drivers was ejected from a vehicle.

Preliminary investigation indicates a silver Acura TL was on Quince Orchard Boulevard turning left to eastbound Quince Orchard Road on a green traffic light.  A silver 1999 Dodge Durango was traveling westbound on Quince Orchard Road approaching a red traffic light at Quince Orchard Boulevard.  The Dodge Durango struck the Acura in the intersection.

The driver of the Acura was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the Dodge was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.  Preliminary investigation indicates that neither driver was wearing their seatbelt.

The driver of the Dodge Durango is identified as Jared Lee Fondren, a 41-year-old male, of the 600 block of E. Main Street in American Fork, Utah.

The driver of the Acura TL is identified as Bok Sun Kim, a 67-year-old female, of the 400 block of West Side Drive in Gaithersburg.
