Detectives Investigate Homicide in Gaithersburg; Suspect Arrested

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division are investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning in Gaithersburg.

Today at 1:49 a.m., 6th District patrol officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the 7-Eleven located at 9051 Snouffer School Road in Gaithersburg.  As patrol officers arrived on the scene, they observed a suspect exiting the store.  The suspect had what appeared to be blood on his hands and clothing.  Officers handcuffed the suspect and located a box cutter style knife with suspected blood on it in the suspect's sweatshirt pocket.  The suspect, while handcuffed, attempted to run away but was quickly apprehended.

Inside the store, officers discovered an adult male 7-Eleven employee suffering from cutting wounds to his neck, chin and wrists.  The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.  The victim is identified as Abdul Ghaffar, age 63, of the 18500 block of Cherry Laurel Lane in Gaithersburg.

Preliminary investigation revealed that two 7-Eleven employees were in the store when the suspect entered.  The suspect attacked the victim, unprovoked, and the second employee called 911.

The suspect is identified as Shaun David King, age 36.  Detectives have not confirmed his address at this time.  He has been charged with First Degree Murder.
