Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision on Columbia Pike

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this afternoon in Silver Spring.

This afternoon, at approximately 2:23 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the intersection of Columbia Pike (MD 29) and Tech Road for a report of a personal injury collision involving a pedestrian and a school bus.

Investigation revealed that a school bus contracted by Howard County Public Schools was traveling northbound on Columbia Pike.  The pedestrian, an adult male, was crossing Columbia Pike from westbound to eastbound in the crosswalk.  The pedestrian had safely crossed the southbound lanes and was continuing across the northbound lanes when he was struck by the bus.  Investigation into the traffic signal sequences at this intersection continues.

The pedestrian has been identified as Elia Miranski, age 91, of the 12300 block of Featherwood Drive in Silver Spring.

The bus driver has been identified as Lori Jean Latimer, age 52, of the 6600 block of Deep Run Parkway in Elkridge, Maryland.
