Update: Detectives Continue to Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision on Columbia Pike

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate a fatal collision that occurred yesterday in Silver Spring.

Yesterday at approximately 2:23 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the intersection of Columbia Pike (MD 29) and Tech Road for a report of a personal injury collision involving a pedestrian and a school bus.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a school bus contracted by Howard County Public Schools was traveling northbound on Columbia Pike.  The pedestrian, an adult male, was crossing Columbia Pike from westbound to eastbound in the crosswalk.  The pedestrian had safely crossed the southbound lanes of Columbia Pike.  He then attempted to across the northbound lanes as the bus was traveling on a green signal and was struck by the bus.  The first two lanes of northbound Columbia Pike traffic were stopped on a red, left-turn arrow.

The pedestrian has been identified as Elia Miranski, age 91, of the 12300 block of Featherwood Drive in Silver Spring.

The bus driver has been identified as Lori Jean Latimer, age 52, of the 6600 block of Deep Run Parkway in Elkridge, Maryland.
