Three Suspects Arrested for Armed Bank Robbery

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division are investigating an armed bank robbery that occurred this morning in Rockville.

This morning, at approximately 10:02 a.m., 1st District officers and Rockville City Police officers responded to the Wells Fargo bank located at 404 King Farm Boulevard for a report of an armed robbery.

Investigation revealed that two male suspects entered the bank armed with handguns and demanded money.  The suspects obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the bank.  The two suspects entered a vehicle, a silver Kia SUV, in which a third suspect was sitting, and fled from the bank.

A short time later, with the assistance of Prince George's County Police Department's Air 1 helicopter, officers located the suspect vehicle traveling on southbound Interstate 270.  With the assistance of Maryland State Police, southbound 270 was shut down in order to stop the suspect vehicle.  The suspect vehicle was located and stopped just south of Tuckerman Lane, and the suspects were taken into custody.

A handgun used in the robbery was recovered from inside of the vehicle.  Additionally, money obtained in the robbery was recovered from a dump truck that had been traveling adjacent to the suspect vehicle.  Investigation revealed that the suspects had attempted to throw the money into the dump truck once they realized that the police had located their vehicle.

No further details are available at this time.  The identities of the suspects will be released after they are formally charged.

Thank you to the Rockville City Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the Prince George's County Police Department, and the Maryland State Police for their assistance in capturing these bank robbery suspects.
