Detectives Investigate Serious Pedestrian Collision on Randolph Road

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a Ride-On bus that occurred this morning in Wheaton.

This morning, at approximately 5:09 a.m., 4th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Randolph Road and Middlevale Lane for a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a Ride-On bus.  Investigation revealed that the pedestrian had been crossing the westbound lanes of Randolph Road.   The Ride-On bus was traveling on westbound Randolph Road in the curb lane of the roadway.  The Ride-On bus struck the pedestrian.  It is still under investigation whether the pedestrian was crossing the roadway in the crosswalk.

The pedestrian has been identified as Tsehay Demeke Woldemanuel, age 34, of the 1500 block of Billman Lane in Silver Spring.  She was transported to Suburban Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ride-On bus has been identified as Edward Donald Mericle, age 59, of the 12500 block of Lime Kiln Road in Fulton, Maryland.  The bus driver was not injured.
