UPDATE: Police Investigate Serious Collision in Gaithersburg

For Immediate Release: Friday, May 30, 2014

On 05/30/14 at approximately 4:30pm, Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to a personal injury collision in the 8000 block of Snouffer School Road.  Upon arrival, officers observed a two vehicle collision involving a 1999 Toyota Sienna and a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck.

Preliminary investigation indicates the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 was travelling westbound on Snouffer School Road.  The 1999 Toyota Sienna was exiting the parking lot of the Horizon Center and attempting to make a left turn on to eastbound Snouffer School Road.  The Dodge truck struck the driver side of the Toyota Sienna.

The driver of the Toyota Sienna sustained injuries and was transported to Medstar Hospital and has since been released.  Three children (aged 12, 11 and 9) from the Toyota Sienna were transported to Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC.  The 9-year old child sustained life threatening injuries and is in critical but stable condition at this time.  The other two children sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Dodge truck refused medical treatment and remained at the scene.

The MCPD Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident.  The area of Woodfield Road and Snouffer School Road remain closed but should reopen around 10pm this evening.
