For Immediate Release: Sunday, June 15, 2014

On Friday, June 13, a kayak and other boating equipment were located in the Potomac River near the Montgomery County bank. The attached photo was released in an effort to determine whether the kayaker had simply lost the boat or was in danger.

Earlier today, the kayaker was identified through others who recognized the equipment. After speaking to him, police determined that the kayaker had experienced trouble in the water Friday afternoon and had to swim to shore, leaving the boat in the water. He did not realize that his boat had been recovered and that he was the subject of a search. He is in good health.

Police thank the public and media outlets for their assistance in publicizing this case.
