Police Investigate Robbery and Kidnapping in Silver Spring - Suspect Photos Released

For Immediate Release: Thursday, June 26, 2014

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division are investigating allegations of an armed robbery and kidnapping that occurred this morning in the Calverton area of Silver Spring.

This morning, at approximately 11:04 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the Bank of America located at 11499 Columbia Pike for a report of a robbery.  Upon arriving, officers located a male subject inside of the bank who claimed that he had been forced to withdraw money from a bank account.  The victim told officers that he had been forced to the bank by three suspects from a room at the Marriott located at 12521 Prosperity Drive.

At approximately 11:24 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the Home Depot located at 2300 Broadbirch Drive for a report of a kidnapping.  Upon arriving, officers determined that the kidnapping victim had been held at gunpoint in a hotel room at the Marriott located at 12521 Prosperity Drive.

Victim #1 (at Home Depot) related that he had been asleep in his room at the Marriott when, at approximately 6:30 a.m., he heard a knock on the door.  He opened the door and three male suspects entered the room, one armed with a handgun.  The suspects requested money from the victim, and the victim provided them with an undisclosed amount of cash.  The suspects claimed that it was not enough money and that the victim would have to provide more.

The victim then called a friend (victim #2 - at Bank of America) and asked him to come to the room.  Victim #2 arrived and was also held inside the room by the suspects.  The suspects then forced victim #2 to accompany them to the bank to withdraw money from his bank account.

Two of the male suspects took victim #2 to a vehicle driven by another female suspect.  The third male suspect stayed in the room with victim #1 at gunpoint.  The three suspects drove victim #2 to the Bank of America, and one of the suspects accompanied Victim #2 inside the bank.  Before approaching the teller, Victim #2 wrote a note on the withdrawal slip asking the teller to contact police.  The teller contacted police, and the suspect fled from the bank along with the other two suspects who had come to the bank.

A short time later, the call from the Home Depot was received.  Victim #1 told police that the suspect in the hotel room had received a phone call and had left the room.  Victim #1 fled from the room to Home Depot where he contacted police.

Neither of the victims were injured in this incident.

Victim #1 claims that he was at Maryland Live Casino last night.

This is still a very active investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identities of the suspects involved is asked to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of this suspect.  Tipsters will remain anonymous.
