For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 2, 2014

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred last night (Tuesday, July 1) at approximately 8:32 p.m.

Last night at approximately 8:32 p.m., officers responded to the parking lot of Eastern Middle School, located at 300 University Boulevard E. in Silver Spring, for a pedestrian collision.  Preliminary investigation has revealed that the operator of a 2008 Ford Escape was driving in the rear parking lot of the school.  For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the parking lot.  The vehicle struck a sign, a tree, and struck an adult female and a 13-year old female who were watching a soccer game.  The adult female was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.  The 13-year-old female was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit believe that there were spectators at the game who witnessed the collision but left before police arrived to the scene.  Investigators are urging those who witnessed the collision but did not speak to investigators to please call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620 or call the police non-emergency number at 301.279.8000.  Language interpreters are available and callers may remain anonymous.
