Detectives from the Major Crimes Division have been investigating a stabbing that occurred in the early morning hours of July 4. The victim has succumbed to his wounds and investigators have charged a subject with first degree murder.

On July 4 at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the Gaithersburg Police Department and the 6th District as well as Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the 900 block of Curry Ford Lane for the report of a stabbing. First responders located a 22-year-old Gaithersburg man in the parking lot of that address suffering from multiple stab wounds. The argument escalated into an assault with the defendant stabbbing the victim multiple times. After the assault, the defendant fled in his vehicle. Investigation by detectives led to the identity of the defendant, Pavel S. Ivanov, 24 years old, of the 11100 block of Lake Breeze Drive in North Potomac. Later that morning, police were able to locate and arrest him in the 200 block of Spectrum Avenue in Gaithersburg.
