Officer Chris Solimano Receives 2014 Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce Police Officer of The Year Award

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, July 8, 2014

On June 25 at the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce's annual Awards and Installation dinner, Montgomery County Police Officer Chris Solimano received the Chamber of Commerce's 2014 Police Officer of the Year award.  Officer Solimano, an officer in the Silver Spring District, was recognized for his quick thinking and creative problem solving that assisted in locating two robbery suspects.

On January 25, 2013, Officer Solimano responded to the Homestead Suites located at 8728 Colesville Road for an armed robbery that had just occurred. A masked man had forced his way into a hotel room, armed with a sawed off shotgun. Inside of the room, the suspect robbed seven people of cash and cell phones.  Officer Solimano knew that he could use his personal phone to track the location of one of the victim’s cell phone. While calming down hysterical victims, Officer Solimano was able to obtain the location of the phone.  The suspect, the gun, and all of the victims’ property was located due to Officer Solimano’s actions.

On January 26, 2013, Officer Solimano responded to the scene of a strong armed robbery of an individual by five suspects on Spring Street.  Officer Solimano again used his personal phone to track the victim’s phone.  One of the suspects was located as he was trying to flee on the Metro.  Officer Solimano had activated the cell phone’s alarm and the alarm was going off in the suspect's pants!

Officer Solimano has clearly embraced the latest technology to gain the upper hand on criminals. During two stressful calls for service, this young officer demonstrated his ability to identify, analyze, and solve a problem by thinking outside of the box.
