Update: Collision in Chevy Chase Now Fatal

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate a now fatal collision that occurred on Friday, July 11 at the intersection of Beach Drive and Wyndale Road in Chevy Chase.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver was traveling southbound on Beach Drive while operating a blue, 2005, Mini Cooper.  For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle crossed the double yellow line and struck a tree near the west bound shoulder.  Fire/rescue personnel transported the 25-year-old male driver to Suburban Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

The driver of the Mini Cooper has been identified as Malcolm Lawrence Gardner, age 25, of the 4300 block of 14th Street NW in Washington, DC.
