Suspect Charged with Armed Robbery;Gun Located

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 16, 2014

Detectives from the 3rd District Investigative Section have charged Maurice Markell Felder, age 43, of an unconfirmed address, with crimes to include armed robbery, kidnapping, first-degree assault, using a firearm during a violent felony, and firearm possession by a prohibited person.

Last night at approximately 10:29, officers responded to the 8000 block of Eastern Drive in Silver Spring for the report of an armed robbery.  The 32-year-old victim stated that she had gotten out of a cab and was walking to an apartment building in the area.  The masked suspect approached her from behind, placed what she believed to be a gun to her back, and demanded her purse.  The suspect then pushed her towards an alley behind the building, obtained her purse, and fled on foot.

During the investigation last night, detectives determined that the suspect was in southeast D.C.  As Montgomery County plain clothes officers attempted to arrest the suspect, he bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot.  Officers gave chase and Felder was taken into custody after the foot pursuit.  Officers located a handgun that Felder threw as he fled from them and also located the victim's purse and a mask in his vehicle.

Felder is currently in the custody of the District of Columbia, awaiting extradition to Montgomery County.
