For Immediate Release: Friday, July 25, 2014

On July 17th, Officer Jeremy Wojdan of the Montgomery County Police Department’s 5th District, was honored during the American Legion-Department of Maryland's annual convention in Ocean City. Officer Wojdan was recognized by the American Legion-Department of Maryland as their Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. This award is presented to a well-rounded law enforcement officer who has demonstrated a distinct pattern of community service, both on and off duty, that goes above and beyond assigned duty requirements. He was nominated for this award by his Commander, Captain David Gillespie.

Officer Wojdan is a 12-year veteran of the department and is assigned to the 5th District. He has served half of his career as a School Resource Officer (SRO). In his position as an SRO, Officer Wojdan mentors students, provides encouragement, keeps the school safe and works with youth to help them make positive choices in tough times and limit risky behaviors.

In the Fall of 2013, Officer Wojdan helped close an attempted murder case, a crime trend that closed approximately 60 burglary cases, 80 theft from vehicle cases and helped recover approximately 12 stolen autos. He has made several significant drug arrests and in one case, he arrested a juvenile and his supplier with over three-and-a-half pounds of marijuana.

Commander Gillespie says of Officer Wojdan, " Jeremy is an exemplary police officer who dedicates himself to keeping the community and schools safe. He is equally invested in serving the youth in our community and making a difference in their lives. Jeremy has earned the trust of students, school administrators and the community alike. I could not be more proud of the work that Jeremy does on a regular basis.  I also want to thank Bill Green and the members of the Damascus American legion Post #171 for recognizing Jeremy for his outstanding service."
