Update: Husband Held in Murder of Wife

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the murder of a 47-year-old Gaithersburg woman. Today they are releasing the identities of the suspect and victim.  Cola Winbone Beale, 51 years old, is being held by law enforcement authorities in Norfolk, Virginia on the strength of a Montgomery County warrant charging him with the murder of his wife, June Carlita Beale, 47 years old.

On Sunday, July 27, at approximately 10:25 a.m., a parishioner of a church that the couple attended called police and stated that Cola Beale had called him stating that he had killed his wife inside their home located in the 18300 block of Hallmark Court.  Officers from the 6th District responded to the residence and forced their way into the home.  Inside, they found June Carlita Beale deceased with trauma to her body.

MCP officers were able to speak directly to Cola Beale on his mobile phone.  While talking with officers, he admitted to killing his wife and also provided his specific location in Norfolk, Virginia.  6th District desk personnel notified members of the Norfolk Police Department, who in turn, located Beale and took him into custody without incident.  Beale is being held in Norfolk awaiting extradition.

The body of June Carlita Beale has been transported for an autopsy to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
