Detectives Investigate Shooting in Wheaton

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Detectives from the 4th District Investigative Section continue to investigate the shooting of a 18-year-old female this morning in Wheaton.

At approximately 5:23 a.m., the Emergency Communications Center received an open line call with sounds of a female in distress. The call was determined to be originating from the area of Plyers Mill Road and Douglas Avenue in Wheaton.  Shortly thereafter, officers learned that the victim, an 18-year-old female, was at a local hospital suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  These injuries are serious but appear to be non-life-threatening.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a group of females, to include the victim, were walking in the area of Plyers Mill Road and Douglas Avenue when they were met by male subjects. For reasons still under investigation, a physical confrontation occurred among the people in the two groups and the victim was shot. Investigators do not believe that this is a stranger-based incident and believe that there is some known association between the two groups.

The suspects involved in this shooting and the gun used in this shooting have not been located. Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530. Callers can remain anonymous.
